Day 1 - “The Merge”
Roadmap
The current version of Blocks.garden is an MVP through which we're validating that the community wants this project. We'll consider the MVP a success if we can manage to fill in the "Day 1 - The Merge" Collection and decarbonize all or most of the 5882 Blocks

🎉 | Milestones Achieved
- ✅ Feb 2022 - ongoing: Zero Labs built the Renewable Energy Certificates Tokenization protocol, API and Green Proofs. This is the basis for decarbonizing Ethereum blocks using Renewable Energy Certificates for the Blocks.garden application.
- ✅ Aug 2022: researched and adapted the methodology, designed and implemented the dApp UI and part of the smart contracts
- ✅ 2022-09-15: The day of the Merge, announced the project and joined the ETH4 Climate initiative
- ✅ 2022-10-12: Presented the project and demo the alpha version at the Sustainable Blockchain Summit in Bogotáwatch the presentation here https://youtu.be/l7NxOfdKN94for the demo we also launched a selection of blocks that are now live on OpenSea and can also be accessed and bought via the app
- ✅ Oct & Nov 2022: Gathering feedback and participation from Launch partners: we've got some OG crypto founders and companies interested or participating as launch partners
- ✅ 2022-11-16: Launching media campaign outreach
- 🚧 Nov 2022: Building a system to enable crypto companies and protocols to calculate the historical consumption and emissions of their smart contracts, based on our improved methodology, to make it simple to decarbonize them.
- 🚧 Dec 2022: Procuring, tokenizing and redeeming the Renewable Energy Certificates needed to decarbonize the selected blocks of Day1
- ⏰ 2022-12-15: 🚀 Public presentation and launch of the MVP: only day 1 blocks will be available to be bought in this MVP
🔭 | The Road ahead
If the MVP is successful, as it seems, the next steps and rough timeline will be:
- Jan-Feb 2023: Full implementation of the smart contracts
- Mar 2023: Implementation of UI & dApp updates
- Mar - Apr 2023: Perform smart contract audit
- Apr 2023: Integration of Zero Labs Tokenization Protocol as the first automated decarbonization option
- Apr 2023: Release of the full dApp with directly buyable blocks on the platform
- Q2 2023: Building fun and engaging ways to decarbonize the other 2604 days of Ethereum 1 blocksE.g. selecting and presenting the "special blocks" that have an historical or cultural connection in the history of Ethereum (eg the Genesis block, or the block of the DAO hack, etc) - the identification of this list will likely be crowdsources with the community
- Q2 2023: Adding a feature to connect your wallet to decarbonize a user's transactions and affected blocks
- Q2 2023: Establishing the Green Hero Council and protocol governance: Green Heros are the holders of the Green-NFTs, the beneficiaries assigned to their blocks by the block owners. The only way to get governance rights is to actually decarbonize blocks. The council will be tasked among other things to propose, assess the quality and choose other decarbonization strategies to add to the protocol (eg Carbon offsets, nature based solutions, crowdfunding new solar or other ReFi options)
- Q2 2023: Researching and implementing one or more decarbonization strategies next to Renewable Energy Certificates
- Q3 2023: Researching and implementing how to integrate and visualize contributions made by projects like Polygon who already decarbonized certain amounts.
- Q3 2023: Introduce in-platform secondary sales with royalties that will be used to automatically decarbonize more blocks, assigning a % to the buyer, and a % to the seller.
- Q3 2023: Enabling other EVM compatible layer2s and sidechains into blocks.garden.
- Q4 2023: Add also other non-evm layer 1 blockchains. This requires researching and choosing the right methodology and data for each chain type.
